Paint The Window Contest.
Saturday, May 10th, 2008.
Local elementary school children have the opportunity to be a store artist in The Village. Prizes are awarded for the best interpretation of current year's theme based on composition, color use and creativity.


Annual Village Sidewalk Sale and Street Festival
Friday, July 25th and Saturday, July 26th, 2008

This is a great opportunity to find markdowns and low, low prices from Village merchants while enjoying food, fun and good times for the entire family! Event takes place on Kercheval Avenue between Cadieux and Neff in Downtown Grosse Pointe. Times are Friday from 12:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, August 4th.

The award-winning Balduck Mountain Ramblers will perform on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Kercheval Avenue Stage near Cadieux Rd. Services for Older Citizens presents Dancing in the Streets, Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with DJ Eugene Strobel on the Festival Plaza, Kercheval at St. Clair. Kids can enjoy face painting, balloons and more on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the corner of Kercheval and St. Clair. Representatives from the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society will be on hand Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Kercheval at Notre Dame. Food and refreshments are available on Friday from City Kitchen, the Village Grille and Jets Pizza, and on Saturday from the Village Grille. GROSSE POINTE’S GREATEST BLOCK PARTY
Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th.

Grosse Pointe’s Greatest Block Party, now in it's second year, is a signature event that features food, refreshments, music, art and fun activities for the entire family! This great event, expanded this year to cover a two block area, brings the concept of the neighborhood block party right into the heart of Downtown Grosse Pointe. The Block Party takes place on Saturday, September 13th, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 14th, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. This late-summer celebration will take place along Kercheval Avenue between St.Clair and Cadieux in The Village, Downtown Grosse Pointe and will feature several on-site events over two days:

• Taste of Grosse Pointe, Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Sample tasty offerings from 16 popular area restaurants.

• Saturday Night Dance Party, Saturday, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Features dancing on Kercheval on a late-summer evening to everyone's favorite party band, the Sun Messengers! Good Music. Good Company. Free Admission. An unbeatable combination!

• Brunch on the Block, Sunday, 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Musicians from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra perform light classical music for flute and strings.

• Adult Paint the Windows Contest, Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Artists of all skill levels display their masterpieces on Village storefront windows in this juried competition. To register, call 313.884.8105. Awards ceremony Saturday, 6:00 p.m. 14 years and older.

• Children’s Activities, Saturday, 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Includes a Pet Parade on Sunday, moonwalk, face painting, s’mores, balloons and special surprises!

• Live entertainment Saturday
from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Village stores will host trunk shows, demonstrations, special sales and a Treasure Hunt at participating stores. Treasure Hunt drawings will take place at individual participating stores with winners entered into a Grand Prize drawing. Drawing takes place Saturday, 6:00 p.m.

Halloween Parade:
Trick or Treating in The Village

Friday, October 31st, 2008.
Stores welcome thousands of costumed children ages 12 and under from area elementary schools. Friends of the Grosse Pointe Public Library will be on hand to pass out free books for trick or treaters. A very spooky event! Trick or Treating is from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
 
Parade Day
in The Village, Downtown Grosse Pointe

9:45 a.m. Pre-Parade Festival on Kercheval Ave. between Cadieux and Notre Dame in The Village, Downtown Grosse Pointe.

10:00 a.m. 33rd annual Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade.

The Parade starts at the corner of Kercheval and Lewiston and proceeds west on Kercheval through The Hill shopping district in Grosse Pointe Farms and The Village shopping district in the City of Grosse Pointe.

4:30 p.m. The Authentic Dickens Carolers will appear in concert at the corner of Kercheval and St. Clair in The Vllage.

5:00 p.m. The Village Aglow Tree-Lighting ceremony. Mayor Dale Scrace will welcome those in attendance and light the exquisitely decorated Village Christmas Tree. A holiday sing-along with the Authentic Dickens Carolers immediately follows the tree-lighting. Members of the Grosse Pointe Boat Club will be on hand to pass out complimentary hot chocolate.
